Fijian Drua Snags Olympic Silver Medalist Ponipate Loganimasi!

The Swire Shipping Fijian Drua has officially signed Fijian 7s standout and Olympic silver medalist Ponipate Loganimasi on a full-time contract. Excited fans will see Loganimasi join his Paris Olympics teammates, Iosefo Masi and Selestino Ravutaumada, in the Drua Men’s squad for the 2025 Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific.

At 26 years old, Loganimasi made a significant impact during his national 15’s team debut, scoring two tries in the Pacific Nations Cup final against Japan. His selection for the Flying Fijians came after Ravutaumada sustained an injury in the opening round of the tournament.

Loganimasi, who hails from Ono-i-Lau with family ties to Nabua in Savusavu, achieved an impressive tally of 35 tries during his brief time with the Fijian 7’s squad in the 2023-24 World Series, culminating in a silver medal at the Paris Olympics.

He also showcased his talent at the McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast Sevens, playing for the Fiji Babaas. His local rugby journey began at the Nawaka 7s last year, where he captained the Kombat Uluinakau team.

Expressing his excitement about joining the Fijian Drua, Loganimasi stated, “I want to thank the Lord for the opportunity. I know it’s not a small opportunity; it is a big one. I know a lot of kids in Fiji dream about playing for the Drua team, and I am so blessed to be given the chance.” He also expressed gratitude to the Drua management for their trust in him and looks forward to beginning training with the squad.

Fijian Drua Head Coach Glen Jackson remarked on the significance of Loganimasi joining the team, noting, “I think it means a lot for Fijian Drua; it shows the quality of players that we’re signing. Loganimasi’s debut with the 15’s team was unbelievable.” Jackson believes Loganimasi’s proven skills on the sevens circuit will make him a valuable asset to the club. He is the fifth Flying Fijian to be signed by the Drua this off-season, as the team enhances its roster by securing other international players like Joseva Tamani, Peni Ravai, Inia Tabuavou, and Vuate Karawalevu.
