Retired school principal Kuber Singh shared his positive experience after receiving free cataract surgery last year, urging Fijians to prioritize regular eye examinations. He visited the Pacific Eye Institute in Suva with his wife, Kusum Lata Singh, who recently underwent eye surgery conducted by the Guangdong Bright Journey medical team from China.
Mr. Singh recounted how he benefitted from the cataract operation last year, expressing his gratitude for the restoration of his vision. “I no longer need glasses to read, and I can watch TV without any difficulties. I truly feel wonderful,” he said. He acknowledged the invaluable assistance provided by the Chinese medical team to Fijians, encouraging others who struggle with their eyesight to seek help at local clinics.
Ms. Singh, who had been experiencing vision problems for three years, described the stress caused by her declining eyesight. After being diagnosed with cataracts and registering for surgery in 2022, she finally received her much-needed treatment. “This will significantly ease my responsibilities at home, especially as my husband and I care for our grandchildren,” she shared.
The Guangdong Bright Journey medical team is actively engaged in providing free eye clinics and surgeries across Pacific Island nations, helping over 100 patients in the process. This initiative highlights the crucial importance of eye health and access to medical services, and it serves as a reminder that through community efforts and international cooperation, individuals can regain their sight and improve their quality of life.
In summary, the story reflects a heartwarming journey of recovery and underscores the significance of caring for our eyes. As these patient stories illustrate, timely medical intervention can lead to a renewed sense of hope and capability for those facing vision challenges.
