Fiji Youth Leaders Champion Commonwealth Change at Major Forum

Youth leaders from Fiji have expressed their dedication to collaborating with Pacific youth leaders from Commonwealth nations to formulate policy recommendations, emphasizing the importance of youth participation in addressing urgent social, economic, and environmental challenges.

This commitment was announced at the commencement of the Commonwealth Youth Forum held in Apia, Samoa, on Monday.

Dr. Arjoon Sudhoo, the Deputy Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, commended the young individuals from the Commonwealth for their role in “shaping the world through various youth-led initiatives.”

“The 13th Commonwealth Youth Forum is more than just the continuation of our journey; it is a celebration of our achievements over the past year,” Dr. Sudhoo remarked. “From Rwanda to Samoa, we have collaborated to establish a platform where young voices are not only acknowledged but also take the lead.”

He highlighted the qualities of resilience, innovation, commitment, and dedication that emerged in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. “As we celebrate our progress, we also contemplate the future,” he added.

Delegation leaders will receive a new memorandum of understanding for the Commonwealth Youth Programme, which aims to ensure the sustainability of the secretariat’s initiatives with young individuals over the next 50 years.
