Last year, many Year 12 students in Fiji worked diligently to succeed in their Fiji Year 12 Certificate Examination (FY12CE), leading to notable improvements in the overall pass rate. For 2024, the pass rate rose to 76%, reflecting a two percent increase from 74% the previous year.
Among the students who excelled, Jessica Singh from Rishikul Sanatan College achieved a remarkable score of 389 out of 400. Although she had initially set her target at above 390, she expressed satisfaction with her performance. Singh dedicated countless hours to her studies, balancing her academic responsibilities with leisure activities to maintain focus. Her high marks included 99 in Mathematics and Physics, and 93 in English. She credited her motivation to a scripture from Philippians 4:13, underscoring the power of faith in achieving one’s goals.
Nilanshika Kumar from Tavua College also shone, scoring 372 out of 400. She was thrilled with her results, particularly in Pure Mathematics, where she achieved a perfect score of 100. Kumar expressed her gratitude towards her supportive parents and teachers as she looks forward to Year 13.
Faith Lagilagi Hanisi Rachel Raduva from Swami Vivekananda College passed her exams and expressed her relief and happiness despite facing various challenges. She aims to improve her results further in Year 13 to pursue her dream of becoming an aircraft engineer.
The Education Minister, Aseri Radrodro, congratulated all Year 12 students, emphasizing the dedication and perseverance they displayed. He expressed gratitude to teachers, parents, and guardians for their vital roles in supporting students through their academic journey. The Minister highlighted that the rise in the pass rate reflects effective educational initiatives and a strong commitment to excellence from students and educators.
Furthermore, three schools achieved a perfect 100% pass rate: Yasawa North Secondary School, Wainimakutu Secondary School, and Labasa College. Wainimakutu Secondary School celebrated this achievement on social media, thanking their students for their hard work and their community’s support.
Overall, this year’s examination results not only highlight individual student successes but also reflect a broader improvement in Fiji’s educational landscape. As more students demonstrate resilience and determination, there is a hopeful outlook for continued academic excellence in the future.
