The Fiji women’s hockey team has maintained its undefeated status as the Oceania Hockey Pacific Cup moves into its final day. The experienced team finished the round-robin matches at the top of the table, showcasing their strong performance throughout the competition.
Coach Alison Southey expressed the team’s focus on winning, stating, “For every team going in you want to win, that’s our aim and we are taking one game at a time. We won all our matches, and come the final day we would like to see the same results. We have areas to work on, and that’s exactly what we are doing.”
In their last match, the Fiji women’s team dominated Tonga with a score of 13-1. The Fiji Warriors had a mixed day, managing a draw against Vanuatu at 2-all, suffering a 0-2 loss to the New Zealand Fijians, but bouncing back with a 7-5 victory over the Solomon Islands.
On the men’s side, the Fiji men’s team also had a strong showing, overpowering the Fiji Warriors with a score of 12-1 and defeating Vanuatu 9-0. Samoa triumphed over Vanuatu 6-3, while the New Zealand Fijians also beat Vanuatu 5-3. In another notable match, New Zealand showcased a strong performance against Samoa, winning decisively at 8-1, while Tonga edged out Samoa with a close 3-2 victory.
