The Fiji Police MPaisa Taskforce has charged a woman in her late 50s with obtaining financial advantage. The accused, who lives in Lami, is alleged to have taken $2,500 from a victim on April 16, 2022.

According to police investigations, the victim was engaged in an online conversation with someone she believed was overseas. The individual convinced her that sending the money would result in a gift being sent directly to her. The victim transferred the funds to a third party, who then forwarded it to the accused.

Further investigations indicated that the third party, who initially received the money, may also have fallen victim to the same scam. Subsequently, the victim attempted to contact the online individual but was unsuccessful.

The accused has been charged with one count of obtaining financial advantage and is scheduled to appear in the Suva Magistrates Court today.
