Tui Cakau, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, has been appointed as the new President of the Republic of Fiji Islands following a parliamentary vote. Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka put forward Ratu Naiqama’s nomination, while Ratu Meli Tora Tavaiqia was nominated by Opposition Leader Inia Seruiratu. In the roll call voting process, Ratu Naiqama secured 37 votes, surpassing Ratu Meli, who received 16 votes. The official swearing-in ceremony for Ratu Naiqama is scheduled for November 12, 2024.
