Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka put forward Ratu Naiqama’s nomination for the presidency, while the Leader of the Opposition, Inia Seruiratu, nominated Ratu Meli Tora, the Chairman of the Ba Provincial Council. Ratu Naiqama achieved a decisive victory, receiving 37 votes compared to Ratu Meli’s 16 votes.
