Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu has been elected as Fiji’s new President, succeeding outgoing President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere. He secured an impressive 37 out of 53 votes in a Parliament session, reflecting significant support from members. In contrast, his opponent, Ratu Meli Tavaiqia, received only 16 votes.

Upon his election, Ratu Naiqama received congratulations from both the Coalition Government and several opposition members who supported his candidacy. Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka emphasized the importance of collective support from the Coalition partners, stating that Ratu Naiqama was also elected by the people, as Parliament serves as an electoral college representing their mandate.
