Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, known as Turaga Bale Na Tui Cakau, has been officially inaugurated as the seventh President of the Republic of Fiji. This significant event took place during a Special Sitting of Parliament on October 31, where Ratu Naiqama secured 37 votes for the position.
Operating under Section 85(1) of the 2013 Constitution, the President serves a term of three years, with eligibility for reappointment for one additional term, although they cannot serve beyond that. The criteria for presidential nomination, as stated in Section 83(1), emphasizes the necessity for candidates to have notable credentials in both national and international spheres, possess only Fijian citizenship, and avoid affiliations or candidacies in political parties.
