Fiji Welcomes First Female Anti-Corruption Commissioner: Meet Barbara Malimali!

The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption has welcomed Barbara Malimali as its new Commissioner, expressing confidence in her leadership abilities. Malimali has stepped down from her role as Chairperson of the Electoral Commission and extended her best wishes to the organization.

As a seasoned criminal lawyer, Malimali was appointed by President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere following recommendations from the Judicial Services Commission and in consultation with the Attorney-General’s Office. Her term began yesterday and will last for three years.

Notably, Malimali is the first woman to hold the position of Commissioner, taking over after the resignation of former Commissioner Rashmi Aslam in September 2023. In response to the recent changes, Malimali emphasized her commitment to fulfilling her legal responsibilities and is eager to undertake her new role with FICAC.
