Fiji Weightlifting Team Gears Up for December Showdown!

The Fiji weightlifting team is gearing up for their upcoming competition in December, as announced by coach Henry Elder. Following their participation in the 2024 Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships last week, where they secured medals in various categories, Elder is committed to enhancing the team’s performance.

Elder has already mapped out a strategy for the team’s next challenge, focusing on improving weak areas while further developing their strengths. He emphasized the importance of ongoing self-assessment and reflection within the team to foster growth. “I’ve gone back to the drawing board. This week, we started identifying aspects that require improvement, both individually and as a team, including the management level,” Elder stated.

He highlighted that instilling a culture of reflection among athletes is vital. “Post-competition evaluations allow us to recognize both successes and shortcomings, enabling us to assess how to enhance our performance,” he explained. He believes that continuous self-evaluation is crucial for advancing to the next level.

Elder expressed his admiration for the young lifters, who make up most of the team. He is grateful for their progress and achievements, noting, “I’m very excited about the accomplishments of our young athletes. The juniors and youths represent the future of the sport.”

He also conveyed gratitude for the recent outcomes. “I’m thankful to God for the results we’ve seen from these talented young athletes. It’s truly a team effort,” he concluded.
