Fiji Weightlifting Team Eyes New Heights Ahead of December Showdown

The Fiji weightlifting team is gearing up for their upcoming competition in December, according to coach Henry Elder. The team recently participated in the 2024 Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships, where they secured medals in multiple categories.

Elder has already developed a strategy for the team’s next challenge, focusing on improving both weak spots and enhancing their strengths. “I’ve gone back to the drawing board over this,” he stated.

This week, the team has begun to identify the specific areas for refinement, addressing both individual and collective needs, as well as those of the management team. Elder emphasized the importance of fostering a culture of reflection within the team, which he believes is crucial for their development.

“It’s important to reflect post-competition to understand both our successes and shortcomings. This allows us to evaluate our performance and identify areas for improvement,” he explained. Elder believes constant self-evaluation is vital for progressing to the next level.

He expressed pride in the young lifters who make up the majority of the team and noted their significant progress. “I’m very excited about the achievements of our young athletes; juniors and youths are the future of the sport, or any sport,” he said. “I’m very thankful to God for the incredible results we’ve achieved in the past week; these young and talented athletes exemplify a true team effort.”
