The Fiji weightlifting team is gearing up for their upcoming competition in December, as stated by coach Henry Elder. The team recently participated in the 2024 Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships, where they earned medals across various categories.
Elder mentioned that he has created a strategy for their next challenge, which focuses on improving weaker areas while further enhancing their strengths. “I’ve already gone back to the drawing board over this,” he said.
This week, the team has begun identifying specific areas for improvement, both individually and as a whole, as well as within their management approach. Elder emphasized the importance of fostering a culture of reflection within the team.
“It’s important to do our reflections post-competition because we see both our successes and failures. This allows us to evaluate effectively and see what we can do to improve,” he explained. He believes continuous self-evaluation is vital for advancing to the next level.
Elder expressed his appreciation for the young lifters, who make up the majority of the team, and acknowledged their progress. “I’m very excited about the achievements of our young athletes; juniors and youths are the future of the sport,” he noted.
He also conveyed gratitude for the team’s recent accomplishments, attributing success to collective efforts and the talents of the young athletes.
