Fiji Weather Forecast: Showers and Thunderstorms Expected Across the Region

Weather Alert

Brought to you straight from the weather wizards at the National Weather Forecasting Centre Nadi, this forecast was conjured up at 7:30pm on Monday, March 24, 2025.

Situation: It seems like the heavens are throwing a bit of a party with two troughs of low pressure making themselves at home, one in the northwest and the other hanging out to the east. Expect some cloud, showers, and the occasional splash from those notorious thunderstorms to drop by and dampen our spirits!

Forecast until midnight tomorrow for Fiji:
Prepare for the possibility of a few drizzles and isolated thunderstorms that are coming to you from Yasawa, Kadavu, and their tiny island buddies, as well as from the Lau and Lomaiviti groups. For those on the eastern half of Viti Levu (think Serua/Namosi, Navua to Nausori, and Tailevu to Naitasiri and Ra), it’s cloudy with a chance of showers – so keep your umbrellas handy! Isolated heavy downpours could grace us unexpectedly, while the rest of us will just get a light sprinkling with some afternoon or evening showers thrown in for good measure.

Afternoon thunderstorms could roll in over Viti Levu and Vanua Levu, so if you hear rumbling, it’s just the sky’s way of reminding you to ratchet up your rain dance. We might even see localized heavy falls, so beware of flash flooding in those low-lying areas! Winds will be moderate, but they’ll have a bit of a “gusty” attitude during those heavy showers and thunderstorms. Seas will be moderate, so no boisterous boating today!

Outlook for Wednesday: Expect the clouds to continue making themselves comfortable with some showers and isolated thunderstorms throwing their hats in the ring—yup, more of the same heavy falls for the eastern half of Viti Levu, Lau and Lomaiviti groups, and the usual suspects like Kadavu and southern Bua. There will be afternoon or evening showers elsewhere, and those afternoon thunderstorms will still be around! Locally heavy falls might be a potential mood dampener, but at least the winds will stay moderate.

For specific locations:

Navua/Suva/Nausori: Cloudy with a side of showers, topped off with afternoon thunderstorms and heavy rainfall – a true recipe for a cozy night indoors!

Nadi/Lautoka/Ba: Partly cloudy with evening showers and thunderstorms likely to make an appearance. Expect localized heavy downpours—grab your raincoat and sprinkle some humor on the forecast!

Sigatoka/Coral Coast: The same old tune—partly cloudy, with afternoon or evening showers and thunderstorms. Expect localized heavy falls. Bring your A-game for umbrella dodging!

Tavua/Rakiraki: Cloudy spells with some showers, especially over Rakiraki, while elsewhere it remains partly cloudy. Expect thunderstorms to encourage some quality couch time.

Yasawa/Mamanuca: Occasional showers and a few thunderstorms will sprinkle the islands—just enough to keep those sandy toes wet but not too soggy!

Labasa: Expect partly cloudy skies but be prepared for those sneaky afternoon showers and thunderstorms. Localized heavy falls could lead to a supersized water feature.

Savusavu: Cloudy periods and the promise of showers with afternoon thunderstorms forecasting heavy falls. It’s a perfect day to read that book you’ve been waiting to dive into, preferably by candlelight!

Lau/Lomaiviti: Occasional showers and the usual bouts of isolated thunderstorms will keep things interesting. Be ready for isolated heavy falls!

Kadavu: Similar forecast with occasional showers and isolated thunderstorms keeping you on your toes. Just be sure to have your rain gear at the ready!

Rotuma: Those pesky troughs are also making their way over you—expect showers and isolated thunderstorms. Showers will ease by tomorrow, but they’re not leaving without a splash! Moderate easterly winds will keep the seas in check.

Outlook for Wednesday: Clouds will still linger around with showers and thunderstorms sticking around for the ride. Better hang on to your hats—it’s going to be a wild few days!
