Fiji Water Supply at Risk: Residents Urged to Prepare for Disruptions

The Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) is urging residents to prepare for potential water supply disruptions as heavy rainfall continues to impact the region. With ongoing rain expected to affect raw water quality, the Tamavua Water Treatment Plant is likely to experience fluctuations in its production levels. This could lead to decreased availability of water in several areas, particularly those typically impacted by high turbidity.

Acting Chief Executive Seru Soderberg emphasized the importance of storing backup water whenever services are partially restored. He explained that increased turbidity from rainfall complicates water treatment, making it more difficult to meet demand while replenishing reservoirs efficiently.

Areas likely to face interruptions include:

– **Namadi Heights:** Mika Drue Place and Pathik Crescent.
– **Bayview Heights:** Mead Road and surrounding streets.
– **Sakoca Areas:** Elevated sections along Lakha Singh Road and surrounding routes.
– **Tacirua:** Elevated areas along Tacirua Road.
– **Tamavua:** Regions including MH Superfresh and Princes Road.
– **Dokanaisuva:** Portions of Princes Road and neighboring routes.
– **Coloisuva:** Areas along Princes Road from Joes Farm to Sawani Service Station.
– **Lami Area:** Various upper regions and access roads.

To mitigate the impact of the anticipated service disruptions, WAF encourages residents to store adequate supplies of water, limit non-essential usage, and keep stored water clean and covered. The authority reassures the community that their teams are continuously assessing the situation and are committed to restoring normal services as soon as conditions allow.

This proactive response showcases WAF’s dedication to public health and safety, highlighting the importance of community cooperation and readiness during adverse weather conditions. Residents are encouraged to stay informed and prepared, ensuring that their essential needs are met while WAF navigates the challenges posed by the heavy rainfall. By taking these steps, the community can show resilience and unity in facing these disruptions together.
