“We’ll be ready for them.”
These were the words of FIJI Water Flying Fijians head coach Mick Byrne as he shared his thoughts on the upcoming Test against the All Blacks this weekend.
The team held their first training session at Mission Valley in San Diego, USA, with all players participating, including the recovering Caleb Muntz.
Although they faced some initial challenges with player availability, the current squad is now working well together, both on and off the field.
“We’ve had three training sessions before facing Georgia. We were a bit rusty at times, but we had a good week last week and the boys trained really well today, showing pace and preparing to bring physicality on Friday night,” Byrne remarked.
When asked about the three-time world champions, Byrne described them with the words legacy and professional.
“It’s a new coaching group, but their legacy spans generations. They’ve had two tough games against England and are starting to build momentum. I know they will be fired up on Friday. They travel well, they’re a professional organization, but we’ll be ready for them,” Byrne added.
The only new addition to the squad since the Georgia Test two weeks ago is Semi Radradra, causing Byrne a selection dilemma on the wing with Jiuta Wainiqolo and Peniasi Dakuwaqa also demonstrating speed.
The Flying Fijians will continue training for a few more days before the clash on Saturday at 3.30pm at Snapdragon Stadium in California.
