As adverse weather conditions sweep across Fiji, the Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) is urging residents to take precautionary measures by storing water for their drinking and cooking needs. In a recent statement, WAF emphasized the importance of boiling water as an additional safety measure.
WAF acknowledged the challenges posed by the current weather, which could interfere with the water supply systems across the country. “Our teams are working tirelessly to ensure a reliable water supply, but these weather conditions may still impact our infrastructure,” the statement noted.
The potential issues include clogging at water intakes, damage to water mains, and complications in water treatment due to increased turbidity. Furthermore, disruptions to electricity supply may hinder operations, and access to WAF facilities might be restricted during recovery efforts.
In response to these challenges, WAF is prepared to mobilize water carting trucks to affected areas, prioritizing hospitals for immediate support.
This proactive approach by WAF serves as a vital reminder for the community to stay vigilant, ensuring that everyone can maintain access to safe drinking water during these unpredictable conditions. By preparing in advance, Fijians can help mitigate the impact of adverse weather on their daily lives.
