Fiji Unveils World-Class Aviation Facility: What It Means for the Future

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka officially opened the advanced Air Laucala Hangar at Nadi International Airport yesterday. This facility, recognized as one of Fiji’s most sophisticated hangars, is a multi-million dollar investment aimed at accommodating high-end visitors traveling to Laucala Island Resort for vacations.

The development reflects a strong partnership among the resort owner, the government, and local landowners, contributing to exceptional guest services and aligning with national development objectives. During the inauguration, the Prime Minister expressed gratitude for this significant private investment, noting its adherence to international standards.

Rabuka stated, “This state-of-the-art facility not only showcases our dedication to enhancing aviation capabilities and premium guest services but also symbolizes our nation’s progress and innovation.” He emphasized that the Air Laucala Hangar aligns with Fiji’s ambition to become a leader in aviation excellence within the Pacific region.

The Prime Minister noted that the new hangar will improve the maintenance and servicing of aircraft, ensuring the safety, efficiency, and reliability of aviation operations. “Furthermore, this hangar will generate numerous job opportunities, promoting economic growth and development. It will serve as a venue for training and skill enhancement, equipping our workforce with the necessary knowledge and expertise to excel in the aviation sector,” he added.

Rabuka thanked all contributors to the project, including local landowners. The facility aims to provide young engineers and technicians with practical experience using the latest technologies, fostering the next generation of skilled professionals in aviation.

Kevin Abramowicz, Director for Laucala Island Resort and Air Laucala, stated that the project’s vision originated from the late Mr. Dietrich Mateschitz, the owner of the resort. He mentioned that the facility would streamline transit for international carriers and private jets to Air Laucala’s aircraft.

“Apart from reducing transit times and ensuring maximum comfort for visitors in the lounge, the hangar has been designed to offer excellent working conditions for our Air Laucala fleet management team, close to industry experts at Nadi International Airport,” Abramowicz added. He also emphasized that Mark Mateschitz, the current owner, is dedicated to continuing his father’s legacy by investing in the development of the North and Fiji.
