Fiji Unveils Major Port Projects for Economic Growth and Security

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has launched three significant projects for Fiji Ports Terminal Limited aimed at improving operational efficiency, sustainability, and border security at Lautoka port.

At the commissioning event, Rabuka explained that these initiatives are part of the government’s broader strategy under the transformational strategic thrusts policy, which seeks to bolster critical infrastructure and underscores the nation’s dedication to sustainable economic growth.

The projects include maintenance dredging over 63,624 square meters to ensure Lautoka Port’s depth and navigability, enabling it to accommodate larger vessels.

Additionally, the Prime Minister announced the construction of a new container yard and a pilot boat project named “Louvaju.” This boat will enhance maritime control and border security, as it can operate outside of port boundaries.

Rabuka emphasized the significance of these developments within Fiji’s wider strategic vision, noting that it is essential to manage the incoming traffic from both the east and west to better serve the islands.
