Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka officially opened the modern Air Laucala Hangar at Nadi International Airport yesterday. This advanced facility, which has cost millions to develop, is designed to accommodate high-end travelers heading to Laucala Island Resort.
The special private investment reflects the strong collaboration among the resort owner, the government, and local landowners, all aimed at providing exceptional guest services while supporting national development goals. During the inauguration, the Prime Minister expressed gratitude for this significant investment, noting its adherence to international standards.
“This state-of-the-art facility symbolizes our dedication to enhancing aviation capabilities and exceptional guest services, and it serves as a sign of our nation’s advancement and innovation,” Rabuka remarked. He emphasized that the Air Laucala Hangar embodies a vision for Fiji’s leadership in aviation excellence within the Pacific region.
The hangar is set to improve aircraft maintenance and servicing, ensuring that aviation operations in the country are safe, efficient, and trustworthy. Moreover, it will generate numerous job opportunities, stimulating economic growth and development. Rabuka mentioned the facility’s role in training and skill development, which will equip the workforce with essential knowledge and expertise for the aviation sector.
He thanked all contributors to the project, especially the local landowners in Nadi and on Laucala Island. The hangar aims to give young engineers and technicians real-world experience with cutting-edge technologies, nurturing a skilled workforce for the future of the aviation industry.
Kevin Abramowicz, Director for Laucala Island Resort and Air Laucala, noted that the project’s conception was inspired by the late Dietrich Mateschitz, the resort’s owner. He highlighted that the hangar will facilitate smooth transitions for both international flights and private jets, allowing for enhanced visitor comfort.
“Besides reducing transit times and ensuring visitors’ comfort in the lounge, this facility offers optimal working conditions for our Air Laucala fleet management team, right next to industry experts at Nadi International Airport,” Abramowicz said. He also reiterated owner Mark Mateschitz’s commitment to Fiji and his dedication to continuing his father’s legacy in developing the North and the entire nation.
