Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka officially opened the advanced Air Laucala Hangar at Nadi International Airport yesterday. This multi-million dollar facility is considered one of Fiji’s most sophisticated hangars, designed for high-end tourists visiting Laucala Island Resort.
The hangar represents a collaboration between the resort’s owner, the government, and local landowners, aiming to enhance guest services and support national development objectives. During the inauguration, Prime Minister Rabuka expressed gratitude for this significant private investment that meets international standards.
He remarked, “This state-of-the-art facility highlights our commitment to improving aviation capabilities and providing exceptional guest services, symbolizing our country’s progress and innovation.” Rabuka emphasized that the Air Laucala Hangar embodies a vision for Fiji to become a leader in aviation excellence across the Pacific region.
He noted the facility’s role in improving aircraft maintenance and services, ensuring safe and efficient aviation operations. Furthermore, Rabuka highlighted that the hangar would create numerous job opportunities and provide training for the workforce, empowering individuals with essential skills for the aviation sector.
He extended appreciation to all who contributed to the project’s success, including landowners from Nadi and Laucala Island. The hangar aims to offer young engineers and technicians practical experience with cutting-edge technologies, nurturing a new wave of skilled professionals in aviation.
Kevin Abramowicz, representing the owner, discussed how the concept for the project originated from the late Dietrich Mateschitz, the resort’s founder. He explained that the facility would facilitate smooth transitions for both international carriers and private jets arriving at Air Laucala.
He added, “The hangar not only reduces transit times and enhances comfort for visitors but is also designed to provide a conducive work environment for our Air Laucala fleet management team, located close to industry experts at Nadi International Airport.”
Abramowicz also mentioned the ongoing commitment of the owner, Mark Mateschitz, to Fiji and his dedication to continuing his father’s legacy in the development of the region and the country.
