Fiji Unveils Luxurious Airport Hangar: A Leap into Aviation Excellence

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka officially opened the state-of-the-art Air Laucala Hangar at Nadi International Airport yesterday. This facility is considered one of Fiji’s most advanced, built at a multi-million dollar cost to serve high-end visitors traveling to Laucala Island Resort.

The private investment exemplifies a strong partnership between the resort owner, the government, and local landowners, aimed at enhancing guest services and achieving national development objectives. During the inauguration, the Prime Minister expressed gratitude for this significant investment, noting its alignment with international standards.

Rabuka emphasized that the facility demonstrates a commitment to improving aviation capabilities and quality guest services, serving as a symbol of national progress and innovation. He stated that the Air Laucala Hangar embodies Fiji’s vision to lead in aviation excellence within the Pacific region.

“This facility will enhance our capabilities to maintain and service aircraft, ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable aviation operations,” the Prime Minister remarked. He also pointed out that the hangar will create numerous jobs, stimulate economic growth, and serve as a venue for training and skill development for the local workforce.

The Prime Minister thanked the contributors to the project, particularly the landowners from Nadi and Laucala Island. He noted that the hangar would provide young engineers and technicians with practical experience in modern technologies, cultivating a new generation of skilled professionals in the aviation sector.

Kevin Abramowicz, Director for Laucala Island Resort and Air Laucala, represented the owner during the event. He shared that the project was inspired by the late Mr. Dietrich Mateschitz, emphasizing the facility’s role in facilitating seamless transfers between international carriers and private jets.

Abramowicz added that the hangar not only reduces transit times and enhances comfort for visitors but also provides excellent working conditions for the Air Laucala team, located near industry experts at Nadi International Airport. He mentioned that Mark Mateschitz, the current owner, remains dedicated to Fiji and is passionate about continuing his father’s legacy in developing the region.
