Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka announced the release of Fiji’s first Foreign Policy White Paper 2024, marking a significant milestone for the nation’s foreign services. During the launch, Rabuka emphasized that this document represents the first initiative of its kind for Fiji, detailing the nation’s foreign policy priorities and providing a strategic framework for international engagements over the next decade.
Rabuka stated that the Foreign Policy reflects the government’s dedication to securing Fiji’s position in the global community and ensuring a bright and secure future for all citizens. He acknowledged that the policy outlines a strategy to address the complex foreign policy challenges facing the nation and serves as a clear declaration of Fiji’s stance and role in the international arena.
The Prime Minister pointed out that Fiji aims to reaffirm its status as a key hub in the Pacific region. He explained that the foundation of this Foreign Policy rests on a comprehensive approach that encompasses all aspects of governance, recognizing that national security and prosperity are intertwined with a clear understanding of national interests and values.
Moreover, Rabuka noted that the Foreign Policy aligns with Fiji’s National Development Plan and is intended to respond to the findings of the current National Security and Defence Review. This alignment is part of a broader strategy to promote Fiji’s strategic and economic goals while enhancing social unity.
He highlighted the three interconnected pillars of Fiji’s foreign policy: sovereignty, security, and prosperity. The Prime Minister expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for leading an inclusive process that incorporated perspectives from various ministries, agencies, and external stakeholders.
Rabuka concluded by stating that the Foreign Policy White Paper serves as a crucial roadmap, ensuring that future generations will inherit a Fiji that is secure, prosperous, and respected on the global stage.
