At the launch event, Rabuka emphasized that this document is the first of its kind, defining Fiji’s foreign policy priorities and outlining the government’s strategic direction for international relations over the next ten years.

The Prime Minister conveyed that this foreign policy underscores the government’s dedication to securing Fiji’s position in the global arena while aiming for a prosperous and secure future for all Fijians. He noted that the policy addresses the complex challenges that Fiji faces on the international stage and represents a clear articulation of the government’s vision for Fiji’s role in the world.

Rabuka stated that the foreign policy reaffirms Fiji’s status as a key player in the Pacific region. The policy is grounded in a comprehensive approach that encompasses both domestic and international dimensions, recognizing that the nation’s security and prosperity rely on a well-defined understanding of its national interests and values.

Additionally, the Foreign Policy is aligned with Fiji’s National Development Plan (NDP) and the anticipated response to the ongoing National Security and Defence Review, serving as integral components of the government’s strategy to enhance Fiji’s strategic and economic objectives while promoting social cohesion.

Rabuka outlined three key pillars of Fiji’s foreign policy: sovereignty, security, and prosperity. He expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for leading a collaborative government effort that involved insights from various ministries, agencies, and private sector entities.

In his closing remarks, the Prime Minister characterized the Foreign Policy White Paper as not merely another document but as a roadmap designed to guarantee that future generations will inherit a secure, prosperous, and respected nation on the global stage.
