Fiji Unveils Groundbreaking Foreign Policy White Paper 2024

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka introduced Fiji’s inaugural Foreign Policy White Paper 2024 yesterday, marking a significant milestone in the evolution of the country’s foreign services.

During the launch, Rabuka emphasized that this document is a groundbreaking initiative for Fiji, detailing the nation’s foreign policy priorities and outlining the government’s strategic direction for international relations over the next ten years.

The Prime Minister affirmed that Fiji’s Foreign Policy represents the government’s dedication to securing the nation’s position within the global community, aiming for a prosperous and safe future for all Fijians.

Rabuka indicated that the Foreign Policy addresses the complex challenges faced by the nation and serves as a clear declaration of both the government’s foreign policy stance and Fiji’s role on the world stage.

He underlined that the policy reinforces Fiji’s status as a central hub in the Pacific region. Its foundation is built on a holistic approach that integrates both domestic and international policies, acknowledging that the nation’s security and prosperity are ultimately linked to a clear understanding of its national interests and values, as well as the best ways to promote them.

The Prime Minister also noted that Fiji’s Foreign Policy complements the National Development Plan (NDP) and the anticipated response to the National Security and Defence Review, forming the core of the government’s strategy to enhance Fiji’s strategic and economic goals and foster social unity.

“The three interconnected pillars of Fiji’s foreign policy: sovereignty, security, and prosperity,” he stated.

Rabuka expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for leading an inclusive government process that gathered insights from various ministries, agencies, and external entities.

“Fiji’s Foreign Policy White Paper is more than just another document; it serves as a roadmap that will ensure future generations inhabit a secure, prosperous, and globally respected nation,” he concluded.
