Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka officially opened the advanced Air Laucala Hangar at Nadi International Airport yesterday. This cutting-edge facility, which cost several million dollars, is designed to accommodate high-end travelers visiting Laucala Island Resort.
The hangar is a product of collaboration between the resort’s ownership, the government, and local landowners, underscoring their shared commitment to providing exceptional guest experiences and achieving national development aims. During the inauguration event, Prime Minister Rabuka expressed the Coalition Government’s gratitude for this significant private investment, which meets international standards.
“This state-of-the-art facility not only reflects our dedication to enhancing aviation capabilities and premium guest services but also symbolizes our nation’s advancement and innovation,” he stated. Rabuka emphasized that the Air Laucala Hangar embodies Fiji’s aspiration to be a leader in aviation excellence in the Pacific.
He noted that the hangar would strengthen the country’s capacity to maintain and service aircraft, leading to safer, more efficient aviation operations. Additionally, this facility will create many job opportunities, contributing to economic growth and providing avenues for training and skill development within the aviation sector.
Rabuka also expressed appreciation to all who played a role in bringing this project to fruition, including local landowners. The hangar will facilitate hands-on experience for young engineers and technicians, nurturing a skilled workforce to advance Fiji’s aviation industry.
Kevin Abramowicz, representing the owner of Laucala Island Resort and Air Laucala, stated that the facility was inspired by the late Mr. Dietrich Mateschitz, the former owner. Abramowicz explained that the hangar is designed to ensure a smooth transition for international carriers and private jets using Air Laucala’s aircraft.
He added, “In addition to reducing transit times and providing top comfort for visitors, the hangar offers excellent working conditions for our Air Laucala fleet management team, in close proximity to industry experts at Nadi International Airport.” Abramowicz concluded by reaffirming that owner Mark Mateschitz is dedicated to continuing his father’s legacy in the development of the region and Fiji as a whole.
