Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka officially opened the cutting-edge Air Laucala Hangar at Nadi International Airport yesterday. This highly advanced facility, which represents a multi-million dollar investment, is designed to serve high-end travelers visiting Laucala Island Resort for vacations.
The private investment illustrates a collaborative effort between the resort owner, the government, and local landowners to enhance guest services and contribute to national development objectives.
During the inauguration, Prime Minister Rabuka expressed the Coalition Government’s gratitude for this significant investment, noting its alignment with international standards. He emphasized, “This state-of-the-art facility showcases our dedication to enhancing our aviation capabilities and providing distinguished guest services while symbolizing our nation’s progress and innovation.”
Rabuka further remarked that the Air Laucala Hangar aligns with Fiji’s vision of becoming a leader in aviation excellence within the Pacific region. He stated, “This facility will improve our capacity to maintain and service aircraft, ensuring that our aviation operations remain safe, efficient, and reliable.”
In addition to operational benefits, the hangar is expected to create numerous job opportunities, bolstering economic growth and development. It will also serve as a venue for training and skill enhancement, equipping the local workforce with essential knowledge and expertise for success in the aviation sector. The Prime Minister expressed his appreciation to all those involved in bringing this project to life, particularly the landowners from Nadi and Laucala Island.
The facility aims to provide young engineers and technicians with practical experience using the latest technologies, fostering a generation of skilled professionals crucial for advancing Fiji’s aviation industry.
Kevin Abramowicz, Director for Laucala Island Resort and Air Laucala, shared that the project originated from the vision of the late Mr. Dietrich Mateschitz, the resort’s owner. He noted that the hangar will facilitate seamless transit for both international carriers and private jets, enhancing comfort for visitors.
“Apart from minimizing transit times and ensuring top-notch visitor comfort in the lounge, the hangar is designed to offer excellent working conditions for our Air Laucala fleet management team, in close proximity to industry experts at Nadi International Airport,” Abramowicz stated. He also mentioned that Mark Mateschitz, the current owner, is dedicated to continuing his father’s legacy of development in the North and across Fiji.
