Fiji Unveils Cutting-Edge Hangar: A New Era for Aviation

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka officially opened the advanced Air Laucala Hangar at Nadi International Airport yesterday. This multi-million dollar facility is among Fiji’s most sophisticated hangars and is designed to accommodate high-end travelers heading to the Laucala Island Resort.

The development reflects a strong partnership benefitting the resort owner, the government, and landowners, aimed at enhancing guest services and meeting national development objectives. During the inauguration, the Prime Minister expressed gratitude for this significant private investment, noting its adherence to international standards.

“This facility not only showcases our dedication to improving aviation capabilities and quality guest services but also stands as a symbol of our nation’s development and innovation,” Rabuka remarked. He emphasized that the Air Laucala Hangar aligned with Fiji’s vision of becoming a leader in aviation within the Pacific region.

“By improving our capacity to maintain and service aircraft, this hangar will ensure safe, efficient, and reliable aviation operations,” he stated. Additionally, the project is expected to generate numerous job opportunities, stimulate economic growth, and offer training for the workforce to enhance skills in the aviation field.

The Prime Minister also acknowledged the contributions of those involved in bringing the project to fruition, including local landowners. The facility is anticipated to give young engineers and technicians practical experience with cutting-edge technology, cultivating a new generation of skilled professionals in Fiji’s aviation sector.

Kevin Abramowicz, Director of Laucala Island Resort and Air Laucala, spoke on behalf of the owner, sharing that the initiative originated from the vision of the late Dietrich Mateschitz, the resort’s founder. He added that the hangar will facilitate smooth transit for international carriers and private jets, significantly enhancing convenience for visitors.

“The design not only minimizes transit time and maximizes comfort for guests in the lounge but also provides a productive working environment for our Air Laucala team, situated close to industry experts at Nadi International Airport,” he explained. Abramowicz also noted that Mark Mateschitz, the current owner, is dedicated to continuing his father’s legacy of development in Fiji.
