Fiji Unveils Cutting-Edge Air Laucala Hangar at Nadi Airport

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka officially opened the cutting-edge Air Laucala Hangar at Nadi International Airport yesterday. Recognized as one of Fiji’s most advanced hangars, this multi-million dollar facility is designed for high-end travelers visiting Laucala Island Resort.

This private initiative signifies the strong partnership between the resort owner, the government, and local landowners, all aimed at providing exceptional service to guests and contributing to the nation’s development objectives. During the inauguration, the Prime Minister expressed gratitude for this significant private investment, which meets the highest international standards.

“This state-of-the-art facility showcases our commitment to enhancing aviation capabilities and premium guest services, as well as representing our nation’s progress and innovation,” Pm Rabuka remarked. He emphasized that the Air Laucala Hangar aligns with Fiji’s ambition to lead in aviation excellence in the Pacific region.

The Prime Minister noted that the hangar will improve the capacity to maintain and service aircraft, ensuring that aviation operations remain safe, efficient, and dependable. Furthermore, it will generate substantial job opportunities, promote economic growth, and serve as a training hub to equip the workforce with essential skills in the aviation sector.

Rabuka extended his appreciation to everyone who contributed to making this project a reality, including local landowners. The hangar will provide young engineers and technicians with practical experience in the latest technologies, helping to nurture a new generation of skilled professionals to advance Fiji’s aviation industry.

Speaking on behalf of the owner, Kevin Abramowicz, Director of Laucala Island Resort and Air Laucala, stated that the project was initially envisioned by the late Mr. Dietrich Mateschitz, the former resort owner. He added that the facility will facilitate smooth transitions for visitors arriving via international flights or private jets.

“Apart from reducing transit times and enhancing visitor comfort in the lounge, the hangar offers ample space and excellent working conditions for our Air Laucala fleet management team, positioned close to industry experts at Nadi International Airport. Our owner, Mark Mateschitz, is fully dedicated to Fiji and is passionate about continuing his father’s legacy in developing the North and the broader region,” Abramowicz concluded.
