Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka officially opened the advanced Air Laucala Hangar at Nadi International Airport yesterday. Recognized as one of Fiji’s most modern hangars, this multi-million dollar facility is designed to accommodate high-end travelers visiting Laucala Island Resort.
This private investment highlights the collaborative efforts among the resort owner, the government, and landowners to enhance guest services and contribute to national development objectives. During the opening ceremony, the Prime Minister expressed gratitude for this important private investment, which meets international standards.
“The state-of-the-art facility showcases our commitment to enhancing our aviation capabilities and delivering exceptional guest services, and it symbolizes our nation’s progress and innovation,” stated the Prime Minister. He noted that the Air Laucala Hangar embodies Fiji’s vision to lead in aviation excellence within the Pacific region.
“This facility will improve our capability to maintain and service aircraft, ensuring our aviation operations are safe, efficient, and dependable,” he added. Furthermore, the Prime Minister mentioned that the hangar will generate numerous job opportunities, promoting economic growth and development, while also facilitating training and skill enhancement for the workforce in the aviation sector.
The hangar is expected to offer young engineers and technicians practical experience with cutting-edge technologies, nurturing a new generation of skilled professionals to advance Fiji’s aviation industry.
On behalf of the owner, Kevin Abramowicz, Director for Laucala Island Resort and Air Laucala, remarked that this project originated from the vision of the late Dietrich Mateschitz, the resort owner. He emphasized that the facility will streamline transit for international carriers and private jets accessing Air Laucala’s aircraft.
“Apart from minimizing transit times and ensuring comfort for guests in the lounge, the hangar provides excellent working conditions for our Air Laucala fleet management team, located near industry experts at Nadi International Airport,” Abramowicz said, adding that owner Mark Mateschitz is dedicated to continuing his father’s legacy of development in the North and throughout Fiji.
