Fiji Unveils Ambitious National Security Overhaul: What’s Next?

The Minister for Home Affairs and Immigration, Pio Tikoduadua, officially launched Fiji’s National Security and Defense Review (NSDR) at the Grand Pacific Hotel today. Emphasizing the urgent need for reform within Fiji’s security institutions, Tikoduadua highlighted the critical importance of rebuilding trust among the Republic of Fiji Military Forces, the Fiji Police Force, civil society, and the private sector. The NSDR report identifies accountability, transparency, and civilian oversight as fundamental principles. It advocates for a people-centered security approach that upholds justice, human rights, and social cohesion. The Minister urged for a comprehensive strategy that involves the entire government and society, incorporating human rights, gender equity, and social inclusion into national security measures.
