The Government introduced its “National Development Plan (NDP) for 2025-2029 and Vision 2050” in Suva yesterday, outlining important steps for the country’s future.
During the launch, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Professor Biman Prasad, who led the NDP’s creation, emphasized that the plan is a vital response to national and global challenges.
“This national development plan arises at a crucial time to tackle our urgent global, regional, and national issues and to shape our nation’s future and possibilities,” Prof Prasad stated.
He noted that the plan was developed through extensive public consultations and reflects a comprehensive and inclusive vision for Fiji’s development.
“My message to Fiji is that this plan belongs to all of you; we are its stewards. Whether you are a young person concerned about job security, a woman weary from unfulfilled promises to end gender discrimination, an elderly person or someone with disabilities worried about future care, or an ITaukei concerned about sustainability in rural areas, this is your plan. It encompasses all of us,” he added.
Prof Prasad highlighted that while the government will guide the initiative, its success depends on collective efforts from the business sector, civil society, and youth. The plan aims to address the needs of various groups, including the youth, women, the elderly, and marginalized communities, underscoring that it is a shared vision for all Fijians.
“We are on this shared journey together, and our progress will remain unstoppable if we stay united in our quest to rebuild a great nation and realize its potential for our people,” he asserted.
The NDP is designed to promote resilience, sustainability, and inclusivity, providing a clear direction for economic vitality and enhanced well-being.
The launch event was attended by government officials, members of the diplomatic community, and local leaders.
