Fiji Unveils Ambitious National Development Plan for 2025-2029

The Government unveiled its “National Development Plan (NDP) for 2025-2029 and Vision 2050” in Suva, marking a pivotal step toward the nation’s future. During the launch, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Professor Biman Prasad, who led the development of the NDP, emphasized that the plan addresses both national and global challenges.

“This national development plan comes at a crucial time, aiming to tackle pressing global, regional, and national issues that will shape our future as a nation,” Prof Prasad stated. He noted that the plan was created through extensive consultations and reflects an inclusive vision for the future of Fiji.

Prof Prasad highlighted that the plan is intended for all Fijians, regardless of their background. “If you are a young person concerned about employment and security, a woman frustrated by the lack of action on gender equality, or an elderly person anxious about receiving care with dignity, know that this plan is for you. It belongs to all of us,” he said.

He stressed that while the government will lead the initiative, the plan’s success relies on collaboration among the business community, civil society, and youth. It aims to address the issues faced by various groups, reinforcing that the plan is for all Fijians.

“We are on this journey together, and nothing can hinder our progress if we remain united in our efforts to rebuild and realize the potential of our nation,” Prof Prasad remarked.

The NDP focuses on fostering resilience, sustainability, and inclusivity, providing a clear direction for economic growth and enhanced well-being. The launch event gathered government officials, members of the diplomatic community, and local leaders.
