The National Development Plan for 2025-2029, along with Vision 2050, serves as a detailed policy framework aimed at guiding government resource allocation over the upcoming five years, while also establishing a foundation for Fiji’s development over the next quarter-century.
The plan was introduced today at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva.
Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica emphasized that the NDP embodies a new political mandate focused on enhancing the well-being of citizens, promoting inclusivity, and advancing sustainable development.
The National Development Plan and Vision 2050 are grounded in three main pillars: economic resilience, people empowerment, and good governance.
Kamikamica remarked that the NDP is poised to act as a catalyst for transformative change, fostering improved economic growth and creating new opportunities.
“I want to stress the significance of collective effort in effectively executing this Plan. It is through our unified actions that we can propel sustainable development and achieve the prosperous Fiji we envision. Let us work together toward building a more sustainable and resilient future for generations to come,” he stated.
He further indicated that the Plan prioritizes the needs and aspirations of the people, ensuring that development is both equitable and inclusive.
“A development plan that neglects to put its people first is ultimately futile and unrealistic.”
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Professor Biman Prasad described the NDP as a comprehensive, strategic, and forward-thinking vision.
Prasad noted that over 21,000 individuals from various sectors, including civil society organizations, industry groups, the military, academia, students, and religious groups, were consulted to gather insights and address public concerns.
“This National Development Plan comes at a crucial time, aiming to address our urgent global, regional, and national challenges that shape our future as a nation,” he said.
The Deputy Prime Minister highlighted that the Plan provides Fiji with an opportunity to pave its way toward becoming a resilient, sustainable, and highly inclusive nation.
