The Certificate Programme aims to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding and practical skills across various martial arts disciplines. Training will encompass Hapkido, Hosinsul, Haidong Gumdo, Tae Kwon Do, Wuzhu Sanda Boxing, and Judo, promoting a holistic approach that enhances physical fitness, mental resilience, spiritual growth, and self-defence skills.

At the launch event, Professor Govinda Lingam, a Chief Guest and Professor in Teacher Education at the College of Humanities and Education, emphasized that martial arts extends beyond mere physical activity, representing a transformative personal journey. He remarked on the programme’s potential to create opportunities for self-discipline and personal growth, assuring participants that it is accessible to individuals of all ages and abilities.

He highlighted the significance of imparting not only technical skills but also valuable life lessons, as martial arts instills resilience and a mindset geared toward continuous improvement.

Dr. Victor Alasa, the CHE Associate Dean of Learning and Teacher, described the initiative as a pivotal moment in the university’s commitment to offering diverse educational opportunities tailored to student interests. He stated that the short course would deliver an in-depth understanding of various martial arts techniques and that experienced instructors would guide participants through rigorous training to build confidence and skills.

Suraj Singh, Head of Department for Secondary and Sports Education at CHE, noted the increasing relevance of martial arts in preparing individuals to confront complex societal challenges. He emphasized that the six-week programme not only aims to improve physical fitness and self-defence but also fosters personal development and composure in challenging situations.
