FNU’s planned hostel fee increase postponed

Fiji University Fee Hike Postponed: What’s Next?

The Fiji National University (FNU) has announced that it will postpone its planned increase in hostel fees until after the 2025-2026 National Budget is revealed. This decision was made by Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro during a meeting with FNU and various stakeholders.

Radrodro emphasized the importance of fairness and transparency in the university’s decision-making process. He noted that FNU is dedicated to keeping both students and stakeholders informed through ongoing consultations, demonstrating a careful consideration of student welfare and the sustainability of the institution.

The Coalition Government, according to Radrodro, is focused on making education more accessible while preserving trust within the educational system. To facilitate this, FNU has committed to adhering to proper protocols and engaging in further discussions to ensure that all necessary consultations occur.

The delay in the fee increase has garnered support from the Fiji Higher Education Commission, Deputy Prime Minister Biman Prasad, and other significant officials, highlighting a united approach to managing educational costs while prioritizing student concerns.

This decision reflects a positive step towards enhancing the dialogue between educational institutions and stakeholders, reinforcing the government’s commitment to educational equity and transparency.
