The Fiji U16 women’s team is looking to recover in their next match at the OFC U-16 Women’s Championship against the Cook Islands after a tough draw with Tonga. Team captain Annie May highlighted the necessity for improved focus and composure.
“Some of us were nervous coming into the match, so we need to concentrate on ball control, enhance our passing, and particularly strengthen our defense,” May said.
Despite the emotional weight from their last game, May remains optimistic. “I reminded the girls that it’s not the end of the world. We have two matches in front of us, so we need to keep moving forward and focus on those,” she added.
National Coach Marika Rodu echoed May’s thoughts, identifying key areas for development after the team netted three goals against Tonga. “The result wasn’t what we aimed for, and we will work on improving our defense and better maintaining possession of the ball,” Rodu stated.
Fiji is set to face the Cook Islands tomorrow at HFC Bank Stadium in Suva at 3 PM.
