The Fiji Tribe team of the Australia Football League (AFL) is gearing up for the Pacific Cup competition taking place in Brisbane, Australia, from November 14 to 24. This ambition was shared by head coach Alipate Navuso during the unveiling of their training kits, which were provided by their sponsors.

Navuso highlighted that the players have completed seven weeks of rigorous training, dedicating themselves to practice sessions daily, except for Sundays, which are reserved for rest. The team’s composition features eight seasoned players with prior World Cup experience from 2011, 2014, and 2017. Additionally, nine members have emerged from the AFL Fiji developmental pathways, having participated in Under-14, Under-15, and Under-17 programs before advancing to the senior team for the first time. Furthermore, the squad includes eleven newcomers who are set to make their debut for Fiji.

Despite facing challenges in securing sponsorships due to AFL’s status as a lesser-followed sport in the region, Navuso expressed gratitude for the support from their sponsor, Flame Tree. He emphasized that the combination of skills from both experienced and emerging players represents the team’s strongest asset.

The team’s preparations have focused on essential AFL skills and improving fitness levels. Navuso described the eleven debutants as underdogs who are eager to showcase their talents on the field. He expressed appreciation for the unwavering commitment displayed by all players during the training period, noting that attendance has been consistent.

Navuso also acknowledged the financial sacrifices made by the players for their training, as many have used their own resources to travel and cover expenses, revealing a strong sense of dedication throughout the squad.

This determination and unity in the face of challenges set the stage for a hopeful and competitive performance in the upcoming Pacific Cup, showcasing not only their skills but also their resilience and commitment to the sport.

In summary, the Fiji Tribe AFL team is well-prepared and committed, drawing strength from their diverse experiences and a tight-knit team spirit as they aim for success at the Pacific Cup in Brisbane.
