Tourism Minister Viliame Gavoka announced that Fiji anticipates welcoming a million visitors this year. Addressing the AHICE Fiji Investment in Tourism Summit in Nadi, he highlighted the record-breaking achievement of 929,740 visitors in 2023, which contributed an estimated $3.2 billion to the economy.
“Tourism remains our growth driver and a key area for investment,” said Gavoka. He pointed out that with Fiji Airways recently joining the Oneworld alliance and adopting American Airlines’ AAdvantage program as its frequent flyer scheme, new direct routes to the US are being considered, potentially increasing visitor numbers.
Gavoka emphasized the growing demand for investments in hotel capacity, ranging from five-star brands to smaller boutique hotels, including those in communities. He welcomed both domestic and international investments to meet this need.
As demand continues to surge, the Minister underlined the importance of enhancing the nation’s tourism infrastructure to accommodate the expected increase in visitors.
