Fiji to Launch Game-Changing Sustainable Tourism Initiative

A new initiative focused on sustainable tourism is set to be launched in Fiji, potentially benefiting over 60,000 individuals, according to World Bank President Ajay Banga. This initiative, developed in collaboration with the Fiji Government, is among various topics being discussed by Mr. Banga with local stakeholders.

During his recent visit to the Nuffield Health Clinic in Tamavua, Mr. Banga highlighted the World Bank’s eagerness to address several issues with Fiji, including healthcare challenges. He emphasized the importance of diversifying the Fijian economy to create job opportunities for youth, helping them remain in their country and utilize their energy for local growth.

“A thriving private sector is essential for this,” he noted. Mr. Banga is also engaging with private sector representatives to explore ways the World Bank can assist them in collaboration with the Government.

The tourism development scheme focusing on sustainable practices is expected to be launched either this month or next, projecting significant positive impacts on the Fijian community when fully operational.
