In a concerted effort to enhance disaster preparedness in Fiji, the Fiji Business Disaster Resilience Council, in collaboration with the National Disaster Risk Management Office, has launched new disaster awareness materials in Suva. This initiative aims to educate students from years 9 to 13, along with their families, about the importance of disaster readiness.

Inoke Raikoso, Senior Education Officer from the Ministry of Education, emphasized the challenge of fostering a culture of preparedness among the youth, particularly against the backdrop of aging school infrastructures and vulnerable communities. The disaster awareness campaign seeks to tackle these issues head-on.

Isoa Talemaibua, the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Disaster Management, celebrated the distribution of 10,000 calendars and informative materials, highlighting the strong partnership with the Fiji Business Disaster Resilience Council. He noted that these materials serve as daily reminders of the steps individuals and families can take to better prepare for potential natural disasters.

This campaign is part of a broader initiative that has already reached over 50,000 homes and nearly 70,000 students across Fiji, with another 50,000 expected to receive the materials this year.
