The President of Fiji, Ratu Wiliame Katonivere, will head a delegation to the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) taking place in New York.
During this annual event, world leaders will participate in the high-level General Debate, which will center around the theme: “Leaving no one behind: acting together for the advancement of peace, sustainable development, and human dignity for present and future generations.” President Katonivere is set to present Fiji’s national statement during this debate on Thursday of next week.
Aside from the General Debate, the Fijian delegation will also take part in important meetings on the sidelines of the Assembly. The UN General Assembly convenes every September to tackle pressing global issues through specific agenda items and resolutions.
President Katonivere’s involvement in UNGA 79 underscores Fiji’s commitment to international cooperation, sustainable development, and the promotion of peace, prosperity, and progress for all. During his absence, Acting Chief Justice Salesi Temo will serve in his role. The President is expected to return to Fiji on the 3rd of next month.
