Fiji Takes Center Stage at Landmark CHOGM 2024 in Samoa

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka is at the helm of Fiji’s delegation for the biennial Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) taking place this week in Apia, Samoa.

The Prime Minister’s Office announced that he will depart for Samoa today, where a series of engagements are scheduled, including meetings with development partners. Joining him are senior Cabinet Ministers, government officials, and representatives from the Office of the Solicitor-General.

CHOGM gathers leaders from the 56 Commonwealth nations across Africa, the Caribbean and Americas, Europe, Asia, and the Pacific. This gathering marks the first time Commonwealth leaders are meeting in the Pacific region.

This year’s Samoa CHOGM is a significant milestone as the Commonwealth celebrates its 75th anniversary. Additionally, it will be the first CHOGM presided over by the new Head of the Commonwealth, His Majesty King Charles III.

The theme for this CHOGM, “One Resilient Common Future: Transforming our Common Wealth,” underscores the necessity for member countries to leverage their strengths to build resilience, unlock potential, and create a connected, digital Commonwealth. This transformation is essential for ensuring a future where no one is left behind.

Fiji’s involvement in CHOGM 2024 reflects the nation’s firm commitment to fostering global and regional peace and solidarity, which are central to Fiji’s Foreign Policy. Engaging in international and regional forums is crucial for advancing bilateral relations and enhancing multilateral cooperation.
