Fiji Takes Center Stage at Historic Commonwealth Leaders Meeting

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka is leading Fiji’s delegation at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) taking place in Apia, Samoa this week. The Office of the Prime Minister announced that he is scheduled to depart for Samoa today, with a packed agenda throughout the week, including bilateral discussions with development partners.

The delegation includes senior Cabinet Ministers and high-ranking officials from the Government, along with staff from the Office of the Solicitor-General. CHOGM convenes leaders from 56 Commonwealth nations across Africa, the Caribbean, Americas, Europe, Asia, and the Pacific.

This marks the first time a CHOGM has been hosted in the Pacific region, making it a significant event as the Commonwealth celebrates its 75th anniversary this year. It will also be the inaugural Commonwealth leaders meeting attended by His Majesty King Charles III in his role as Head of the Commonwealth.

The theme for this year’s CHOGM, “One Resilient Common Future: Transforming our Common Wealth,” focuses on the necessity for the member countries to leverage their strengths by enhancing resilience, realizing potential, and promoting a connected digital Commonwealth. This transformation aims to ensure that a resilient future is achievable for all.

Fiji’s involvement in CHOGM 2024 underscores its strong commitment to global and regional peace and solidarity, which is central to its foreign policy approach. The country recognizes the importance of participating in global and regional forums to strengthen bilateral relationships and foster multilateral cooperation.
