Fiji Takes Center Stage at Historic CHOGM in Samoa

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka is heading Fiji’s delegation to the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) taking place in Apia, Samoa this week. The Prime Minister’s Office announced his departure for Samoa today, where he has a series of scheduled activities, including meetings with development partners.

Accompanying him are senior Cabinet Ministers, high-ranking government officials, and representatives from the Office of the Solicitor-General.

CHOGM gathers leaders from 56 Commonwealth nations across Africa, the Caribbean and Americas, Europe, Asia, and the Pacific. This marks the first time the Commonwealth leaders’ meeting is being held in the Pacific region.

This year’s CHOGM is particularly significant as it celebrates the 75th anniversary of the Commonwealth. It will also be the inaugural meeting for His Majesty King Charles III as the new Head of the Commonwealth.

The theme for this CHOGM is “One Resilient Common Future: Transforming our Common Wealth,” highlighting the importance of collaboration among the 56 member states. The focus will be on building resilience, unlocking potential, utilizing the ‘Commonwealth Advantage,’ and promoting a connected, digital Commonwealth to ensure a shared prosperous future for all.

Fiji’s engagement in CHOGM 2024 underscores its strong commitment to global and regional peace and solidarity, which form the foundation of the nation’s Foreign Policy. Participation in global and regional forums is essential for advancing Fiji’s bilateral relations and multilateral cooperation.
