Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka is heading Fiji’s delegation to the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) taking place this week in Apia, Samoa. The Prime Minister’s Office announced that he will depart for Samoa today, where a series of activities, including bilateral meetings with development partners, are scheduled for the week.
The delegation includes senior Cabinet Ministers, high-ranking government officials, and personnel from the Office of the Solicitor-General. CHOGM convenes leaders from 56 Commonwealth nations spanning Africa, the Caribbean and Americas, Europe, Asia, and the Pacific.
This event marks the first time a Commonwealth leaders’ meeting is held in the Pacific. The Samoa CHOGM is significant as the Commonwealth celebrates its 75th anniversary this year and will serve as the inaugural CHOGM for the new Head of the Commonwealth, His Majesty King Charles III.
This year’s theme, “One Resilient Common Future: Transforming our Common Wealth,” underscores the necessity for member countries to utilize their strengths by fostering resilience, unlocking potential, harnessing the “Commonwealth Advantage,” and developing a connected digital network. This transformation is essential to ensure a future where no one is left behind.
Fiji’s involvement in CHOGM 2024 reflects its steadfast dedication to promoting global and regional peace and solidarity, which is central to the nation’s foreign policy. Engaging in global and regional discussions is crucial for advancing Fiji’s bilateral relationships and multilateral collaboration.
