Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka is heading Fiji’s delegation to the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) taking place in Apia, Samoa this week. The Prime Minister’s Office announced that he will depart for Samoa today, with a busy schedule that includes various engagements and bilateral meetings with development partners.
The delegation comprises senior Cabinet Ministers, government officials, and representatives from the Office of the Solicitor-General. CHOGM unites leaders from 56 Commonwealth nations spanning Africa, the Caribbean, the Americas, Europe, Asia, and the Pacific.
This marks the first CHOGM to be hosted in the Pacific region and is a significant event as the Commonwealth celebrates its 75th anniversary. Additionally, it will be the inaugural CHOGM led by the new Head of the Commonwealth, His Majesty King Charles III.
The theme for this year’s meeting, “One Resilient Common Future: Transforming our Common Wealth,” highlights the importance of the member countries working together to build resilience, unlock potential, and create a connected digital Commonwealth. This transformation aims to ensure a sustainable future that includes everyone.
Fiji’s involvement in CHOGM 2024 underscores its strong commitment to global and regional peace and solidarity, which is central to the country’s Foreign Policy. Engaging in such global forums is essential for enhancing bilateral relations and fostering multilateral cooperation.
