Fiji Takes Center Stage at Commonwealth Meeting: Voices of the Pacific Unite

Fijians will have the chance to voice their concerns regarding the issues and challenges facing Pacific Island nations this week during the 2024 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) taking place in Apia, Samoa.

At the opening of the 2024 Samoa CHOGM, Samoan Prime Minister Fiame Mata’afa emphasized that representatives from Fiji, along with officials from over fifty other island countries, will engage in meaningful discussions and collaborations. The forums for citizens, youth, and women are designed to ensure that significant voices are heard.

Prime Minister Mata’afa highlighted the importance of discussing children’s issues as the youth express optimism for their future amidst the changing landscape. She stated, “This week is an opportunity for meaningful dialogue and impactful collaboration across our Commonwealth family.”

She continued by underscoring that the hopes of children are paramount to discussions about prosperity, fairness, and sustainable development. Leaders are encouraged to listen to these crucial perspectives during the forums.

“Let us listen to the voices of the people,” she urged.
