Cabinet has officially approved Fiji’s National Digital Strategy, marking a significant step towards enhancing the country’s digital landscape. This strategy outlines a coordinated approach aimed at harnessing digital technology to stimulate economic growth and promote sustainable development across various sectors.
The initiative seeks to solidify Fiji’s status as the region’s digital hub, ensuring that suitable conditions are established to advance an innovative and accessible digital economy founded on strong digital trust. To facilitate the implementation of the strategy, a National Digital Economy Committee, along with a National Digital Subcommittee and a National Digital Implementation Unit, will be created to oversee the process.
Former announcements by Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica at the Fiji Tech Summit highlighted that this strategy is a comprehensive five-year plan aimed at transforming Fiji into a digitally empowered economy. The strategy prioritizes enhancing digital infrastructure, promoting digital inclusion, fostering innovation-driven economic growth, advancing smart governance, and improving global digital cooperation.
Additionally, Shaheen Ali, the Permanent Secretary for Trade, pointed out the importance of this strategy in aligning with Fiji’s e-commerce objectives, encouraging businesses to adopt digital trade and e-commerce practices. This initiative not only represents a commitment to economic resilience and empowerment but also aims to create a supportive environment for all Fijians, from rural farmers to urban tech entrepreneurs.
